So this was actually released a few weeks ago, but I wanted to make sure I had some time to play around with the new version and create a video (or in this case 2…in an attempt to keep the length down) to walk you through the theme options.
Before I get into what’s new with the 2.0 version of the Fresh Journal theme- I have to point out something that can often times be over looked and missed when it comes to selecting a premium theme. When I wrote the first post about this theme, someone left a bit of a snarkey comment that it didn’t look like anything special and looked like a bunch of other themes out there (actually didn’t mind the comment….as your blog grows there’s no way to please everyone- so I just took it as a sign that I’m movin’ up in the world… or blogoshpere anyways).
As someone who WORKS with premium themes DAILY (and I’m not just referring to my own sites)- I can tell you that what makes Fresh Journal SO fabulous is the theme options in the dashboard (and the price is great too)! If you’ve been following the significant progress of WordPress even over the last couple of years you know that it just keeps getting better. As WordPress evolves the premium theme marketplace is evolving as well.
This is where I think Simply Fresh Themes has done a fabulous job with Fresh Journal 2.0! You all know I’m a complete geek about visual things- well you can change the theme colors to ANYTHING you want without touching a piece of code!
Here’ s a brief overview of what’s new in Fresh Journal 2.0. The videos will walk you through installing and changing things.
- Complete Color Customization (this simply rocks….built in color picker too!)
- New Theme options framework (Fresh Journal options appear in their own tab in the Dashboard- no longer under ‘Appearance’)
- Choose Your Font with font customization (personally I prefer Arial…)
- Add a background image as opposed to just using a color
- Built in share buttons (Keller did a great post on adding these to any theme….still need to implement it here)
- Custom stylesheet
- Trackbacks added to comments
Pretty nice, huh?
I have to warn you with the videos…like most of my videos on this site- these aren’t scripted! Just me walking you through what I’m doing!
