This is probably one of the easiest things to do when you’re first getting started, but can often get overlooked. And if you happen to forget to select a category when you’re writing a post, it will automatically default to uncategorized. This might not sound like a big deal, but when it comes to the search engines, you want to optimize every piece of your site possible – and your category is too important to overlook.
All you need to do is go into your dashboard, click on the posts menu (remember, the drop down menu doesn’t show up until you mouse over the word ‘Posts’) and select Categories.
Once your Categories menu is opened up, just mouse over the category ‘Uncategorized’ and you’ll see the edit, quick edit and delete. Select the ‘edit’ option.
When the option to ‘edit’ opens up, just erase the word ‘uncategorized’ and type in whatever category you want to use. After you’ve changed the name, make sure you select update category. And that’s it, as my daughter always says, ‘Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy”!
