Depending upon which theme you’re using for your site, you may want to change the order in which your categories appear. For this site, I’m using Brian Gardner’s Church theme and all of the categories appear below the navigation bar, so I definitely want to have some control over the order in which they appear.
The easiest solution to this is to add the ‘My Category Order’ plugin to your site. So, just like any other plugin you want to add, you’ll go to your Plugins menu in your dashboard, click on it so the drop down menu appears, then select ‘Add New’. After you click ‘Add New’, you can just type in the name of the plugin into the search box. Once it appears, just click install and then install now when the window opens up to install it. After you’ve clicked install and the plugin has successfully installed, click on ‘activate plugin’.
Now you want to go to your ‘Posts’ menu and click on it to open the drop down menu. You should now see the ‘My Category Order’ plugin sitting there. Click on it to change the order of your categories. This is what you’ll see:

And that’s it! Just drag the category (the entire bar that the category name is sitting on) and drop it. When you’re done moving your categories around, just ‘Click to Order Categories’. That’s it!
